Investigation confirms cop colluded with drug dealers, gutka sellers, land grabbers

A sub-inspector formerly in charge of the Tasveer Mahal police post in Korangi district has been dismissed from service after a departmental inquiry confirmed he patronised criminals in his jurisdiction.

The SI - identified as Rao Fayyaz Ahmad - was accused of colluding with drug dealers, gutka sellers, and land grabbers, among other criminal activities.

Fayyaz had been suspended and detained in B Company on Sept 2, following reports of his misconduct. He was accused of facilitating criminal activities through a private associate, identified as Basheer, who is allegedly involved in extortion and bribery.

The inquiry indicated that Fayyaz had released a criminal named Naeem, alias Boss, in exchange for a bribe.

He was also linked to a criminal gang operating in Korangi and Malir districts under the influence of a woman named Rimsha, who was reportedly seen with him at the police station.

The gang, known for street crimes, is said to have flourished under his protection.

Fayyaz also operated an ambulance service, called 'Rao Ambulance,' which allegedly ran in collaboration with two major private hospitals in the city.

Despite his claims of running the service for humanitarian purposes, the inquiry found that it was used as a cover for further illegal operations.

The inquiry, which concluded on Nov 6, found Fayyaz guilty of all charges. A final show-cause notice was issued to him on Nov 11.

When questioned during the inquiry on Nov 21, Fayyaz admitted to his connections with criminals but denied ownership of the ambulance service, explaining it as part of his alleged welfare efforts.
