True friends: China first country to offer flood aid
He also conveyed sympathies of the Chinese Government regarding the devastation caused by the widespread monsoon rains.
The Foreign Minister thanked the Ambassador for the prompt response to the appeal for relief assistance.
She stated that as true friend of Pakistan, China was the first country to announce assistance for flood affected people in 2011.
The Foreign Minister underlined the magnitude of devastation caused by the floods. She apprised the Ambassador that the priority at this stage of relief and rescue was waterproof tents.
In the aftermath of the 2010 floods, China was one of the major international aid donors to Pakistan, providing over $200 million in emergency flood aid.
While the Pakistan government has called for foreign aid to help with the devastating floods, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has spoken against foreign aid, saying that government resources were adequate and there was no need for seeking help from foreign countries.
Current flooding has reportedly taken 199 lives and destroyed or damaged nearly one million houses, and flooded 4.2 million acres of land.

@XXX: Who told you China gave $200m? they only promised it but gave only $50m..whereas India gave $25m in 2 instalments..check with your pakistani government sources (incl. Do you really know how much free aid that China has given Pakistan in the past three decades? Do you really know how much free doleouts the US or Saudi has given Pakistan in the same period? Do some research before making comments here. China has given a big zero in free aid apart from token aid, that is really peanuts, for 2005 earthquake and last year's floods.
First ask yourself how much have you given before condemning anyone. If the begger on the street gives only 1% of his wealth and the president of the country gives 1% of his wealth - who do you think has given more????? In times of need all of us has to provide whatever we can, thereby alleviating some of the problems of the needy.
Why accept aid? It is shameful. Pakistan must stand on its own two feet, not beg from other countries. It is better to die of shame than to survive on alms.
What about all the Foreign aid being sifoned to Swiss Banks by corrupt pakistani politicians. No country is willing to give us aid because of this.

U.S and India can give us a lot, but they also make a deal with the millions they offer. China is and will always be a true friend. It's not mandatory on the them to give us aid as much as we want, they have given us a lot, we know the fact that we can't return them much. And all those who are praising and appreciating US and India more than China, dont forget the fact that just a few months ago, the drama that US did at Abbottabad it was only China's one warning to the whole world that kept our hopes alive and our heads high. Clearly, Pakistani friendship is cheap when it comes from people Pakistan doesn't hate. That being said, maybe we could grow up and stop "expecting" aid and be grateful for it. Our "all weather friend" is cutting back her aid after discovering that we have sent our "strategic depth" to its nation as well.

there are plenty of other articles on tribune and dawn mentioning various other forms of AID from US
Flooding and then begging ... good business and we never learn from our mistakes. We had floods last year and we did nothing this year too, though we were warned by the Foreign Meterologist about the flooding this year.
By the way, we never cared for our people who are now affected - kept them like this for more than 60 years - we care for dollars.

The initial amount of $4M this time around from China compares with $0 from India!! Not $25M. . As for the Americans supposedly donating $500M, that's not true. It surprising that lots of complaints here about tiny donations from China which it has has a $3 trillion foreign reserves.you guys should learn what does foreign reserve mean first.The foreign reserve is not like the money in your purse you can spend it whenever and wherever you wish.many countries are much wealthy than China though they have much less foreign reserves including US(not even in top 10 ranking).

To be correct with numbers, India actually gave $50 million. The $25 million was the first announcement.

The headlines suggests that Pakistanis have proven that beggars can be choosers!
Few months back, aid worth $25 from Indian was deemed too small but $4.7m from China is worth the front page headlines and not to mention the billions that Americans have poured in only to see conspiracies theories crop up.
Beggars can in fact be choosers, perhaps the next frontier for Pakistan is that bird in hand is not better than three in bushes!

USA has always helped Pakistan in bad times (apart from talibanization and leaving afghan mess) ... they even helped us in last floods by dispatching their heavy lift copters ... and i dont see anyone appreciating that ... apart from that american ngo's efforts cant be counted out too ...

It a country is poor they can only pray for the flood victims and it would be fine. If they don't have anything then don't try to donate. However, China with trillions of $$ of trade surplus should not insult itself by such tiny amount. It is like I give a paisa to a poor person to alleviate his problems! I am not advocating begging, however, friends should treat friends with respect and parity and not insult them.

If 4 million buys you a front page headline labeled "True Friend" I am sure the American's would provide you that 50 times a year --- but if it were the American's the headlines the headline would be something like "Cheap friend only delivers $4 million".
US had given $500 Million and had asked its allies, rather forced, to donate more. At first China had offered some $9 Million, when India had offered $25 Million.
But, you will NEVER see a headline saying US or India being "True Friends" in Pakistan.
Come to think of it, US barely got praises for donating such a large amount in a recession year!
