Players’ association formation is up to PCB and players: World Cricketers' Association CEO

CEO Tom Moffat confirms no discussions have taken place regarding a players' association in Pakistan.

The Chief Executive Officer of the World Cricketers' Association, Tom Moffat, has stated that the formation of a players' association in Pakistan is a matter that the players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must resolve together, adding that the World Cricketers' Association has not held any discussions on this issue with Pakistani players.

In an exclusive interview with Express News, Moffat emphasised that while Pakistani cricketers appear dissatisfied with the PCB, especially concerning No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for playing in leagues, the decision to establish a players' association lies solely with the players and the PCB.

Moffat highlighted the need for a representative body for players in Pakistan, noting that past efforts to form one have failed. “We want to ensure that we are helping players as much as possible and promoting the game wherever we can,” Moffat said, reiterating the World Cricketers' Association's support for players globally.

He further added, “Pakistan has a rich cricketing history, and it is a key nation in world cricket. We aim to foster strong relationships and work closely with the PCB and other stakeholders to promote the game."

Regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Moffat expressed optimism about the future. "Our relationship with the PCB concerning the PSL has always been positive, and we look forward to strengthening these ties further," he remarked.

Moffat also mentioned the involvement of Sana Mir, who is on the board of the World Cricketers' Association, and the association’s ongoing cooperation with Apex Sports under the leadership of Imran Ahmed Khan, both of whom bring vast experience in different areas of cricket.
