Disney+ implements new password sharing restrictions worldwide

Disney+ outlines new rules for password sharing, with changes coming to multiple regions worldwide.

Disney+ has released details of its password sharing crackdown, known as "paid sharing," now expanding globally. 

The new measures, which have been gradually rolled out since the summer, will affect subscribers across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and several other regions.

In a recent blog post titled Paid Sharing on Disney+: Here’s What You Need to Know, Disney+ explained that accounts accessed outside the primary household will need their own subscription or be added as an Extra Member. The Extra Member option comes at an additional cost of $6.99 per month for Disney+ Basic and $9.99 for the premium tier.

Subscribers are allowed to add only one Extra Member per account. However, this feature isn't available for those using the Disney bundle or paying through partner services. If a person opts to create their own Disney+ subscription, their profile, watch history, and settings can be transferred without issue.

For users traveling or seeing the message, "This TV doesn’t seem to be part of the Household for this account," Disney+ provides the option to mark themselves as "I'M AWAY FROM HOME" or update the household location. These selections will require a one-time passcode, which will be sent to the email linked with the account.

This move follows similar actions taken by other streaming platforms like Netflix, aiming to curb unauthorized access.
