Türkiye and Pakistan vow to deepen defence and economic ties

Leaders discuss stronger collaboration and global peace efforts on the sidelines of UN General Assembly

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Tuesday that Türkiye and Pakistan will continue to take joint steps to strengthen their ties, particularly in the areas of the defence industry and economy.

Thees announcement came after Erdogan's meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Turkish House in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. During their discussion, they addressed bilateral relations, regional matters, and global issues.

Erdogan emphasised the need to intensify efforts to halt Israel's attacks on Gaza, affirming Türkiye's ongoing attempts to achieve a permanent ceasefire, promote peace, and provide urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

The Turkish president also presented Sharif with his book, A Fairer World is Possible.

Pakistan and Türkiye share a longstanding relationship rooted in mutual respect and cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and defence.

Both countries have signed multiple agreements to enhance trade and bilateral cooperation, including the Preferential Trade Agreement in 2022.

The two nations have collaborated extensively in the defence industry, while trade between them continues to expand, especially in sectors such as textiles, construction, and technology.
