Punjab cabinet approves recruitment to 7,354 posts

The Punjab cabinet has approved the recruitment of 7,354 college teaching interns (CTIs) to serve across the province.

The cabinet members were informed during a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif that a central portal would be set up for transparent recruitment of the teaching interns in the government colleges

The chief minister also sought a comprehensive and uniform housing policy across the province. She directed the Board of Revenue to submit a five-year housing policy to the cabinet.

The cabinet approved a special allowance for police personnel performing duty in the Katcha area.

The chief minister stopped the authorities concerned from increasing the hostel charges for working women across Punjab. The cabinet rejected the Working Women's Hostels policy over the proposal to increase the charges by the women development department.

The CM commended Irrigation Minister Kazim Pirzada and his department for preventing loss of lives during the recent floods.

The cabinet approved a Rs500 million Endowment Fund for Writers Welfare under the information and culture department.

It was informed that the MDCAT examinations for medical college admissions had been conducted smoothly in Punjab, while questions were being raised over the exercise in other provinces.

The chief minister sought a plan for a monthly package for visually impaired persons.

The cabinet approved a special court for persons with disabilities.

In addition, conditional approval was given to delegate the powers of sub-registrar to the Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars.

Approval was granted to include the Lahore Knowledge Park under the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority.

Amendment to the exchange policy of government land with housing schemes and the reissuance of funds for upgrading, constructing and rehabilitating tertiary care hospitals were approved.

Under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, approval was granted to amend a notification to allow an assistant director of local government to serve as chairperson of the conciliation council.

The cabinet approved a proposal to delegate then powers related to leave and pension to the CEOs of health and education in the districts.

Presiding over another meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued directives to complete the legal process for setting up the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) as soon as possible.

"The establishment of a competent authority is indispensable for the elimination of artificial inflation and hoarding. We are introducing structural reforms in every sector," she said, also stressing that encroachments in streets and markets would not be allowed.
