Who was Big Jook? exploring Yo Gotti’s brother’s role in Young Dolph's murder and his death in 2024

Shelby County prosecutors claim Big Jook, Yo Gotti's brother, orchestrated the 2021 hit on rapper Young Dolph.

Shelby County prosecutors revealed on September 23rd that Anthony "Big Jook" Mims, the late brother of rapper Yo Gotti, allegedly placed a $100,000 hit on Memphis rapper Young Dolph, leading to his murder in 2021. 

During opening statements in the trial of Justin Johnson, who is charged with Dolph’s murder, Deputy District Attorney Paul Hagerman detailed Big Jook's involvement. 

According to Hagerman, Big Jook offered Johnson the hit as part of an alleged plan to get signed to Yo Gotti's CMG label.

Johnson, who has performed under the stage name Straight Drop, faces charges of murder and conspiracy, but his attorney, Luke Evans, has insisted that Johnson is innocent. 

"The evidence doesn't tie him to the killing," Evans argued during his opening statements.  

The prosecution's case against Johnson points to surveillance footage from the day of Dolph's murder, showing two armed men at the scene. 

However, Johnson’s legal team has refuted claims that he is the individual in the video. CMG, the label founded by Yo Gotti, has not responded to requests for comment.

Big Jook, 47, was killed in January 2024 outside a Memphis restaurant, following the funeral of a relative. Memphis police have not announced any arrests in connection with his death. His final Instagram post just before his murder read, “They don’t want to face you, they wanna snake you. Stay alert to stay alive, watch your back at all times.”
