BCB awaits medical report on Shakib for Kanpur Test

The veteran all-rounder sustained a finger injury while batting during the opening Test in Chennai

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials will decide on Shakib Al Hasan's participation in the second Test against India in Kanpur after conducting a thorough medical assessment.

Shakib sustained a finger injury while batting during the opening Test in Chennai, where he was struck by a delivery from India's Jasprit Bumrah.

"We are heading to Kanpur tomorrow (Tuesday) and today is a day off. We will have two sessions afterwards and we will judge after that (regarding Shakib's availability in second Test) and we don't want to make a decision yet," Hannan Sarkar, member of the BCB's selection panel, told reporters at Chennai on Monday.

Sarkar further explained that the team's physio has been closely monitoring Shakib, and once they return to practice, they will evaluate his condition based on the physio's feedback.

"These two days, the physio has kept him under observation. When we get back to the ground, we will get the physio's feedback. We have to think before picking Shakib for the next match and there is time before the next match. We will see what condition he is in," he said.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain downplayed Shakib's injury concerns, stating that they chose not to use him as a bowler because other players were performing well. Sarkar echoed the same, clarifying that Shakib had no issues with his finger before the Chennai Test.
