The murder trial of rapper Young Dolph is currently underway, with prosecutors making significant claims about the involvement of Yo Gotti’s late brother, Anthony "Big Jook" Mims.

During the trial, which began on September 23, prosecutors alleged that Mims offered a $100,000 hit to have Young Dolph killed.

Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy addressed the media during a court recess on Monday. Mulroy discussed the absence of Cornelius Smith, one of the alleged gunmen, and the ongoing investigation into Yo Gotti's brother, Big Jook, who was killed after Young Dolph's murder.

Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith Jr. are on trial for the November 2021 murder of Young Dolph, who was shot while purchasing cookies for his mother at Makeda's Cookies in Memphis. Both men face first-degree murder and other felony charges.

Prosecutor Paul Hagerman detailed the long-standing feud between Dolph’s label, Paper Route Empire (PRE), and Gotti’s CMG (Cocaine Music Group). According to Hagerman, Dolph repeatedly declined lucrative offers from CMG to remain independent, which escalated tensions between the two labels.

The prosecution also highlighted a series of violent incidents, including Dolph’s 2017 shooting in North Carolina, which inspired his diss track "100 Shots." Hagerman connected Big Jook to the murder plot, claiming he offered $100,000 to Johnson and Smith to carry out the hit. Johnson, who rapped under the name Straight Dropp, allegedly viewed this as an opportunity to align with CMG and further his rap career.

The trial is taking place at the Shelby County Courthouse, with Judge Jennifer Mitchell presiding. Hernandez Goven, accused of orchestrating the plot, will also stand trial. Big Jook was killed outside a Memphis restaurant in January, but no suspects have been identified.
