FIA arrests IESCO officials for bribery, recovers Rs14.75m

Initial investigations reveal that the accused received the bribe from field officials

ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has carried out a significant operation, leading to the arrest of several officials from the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) for accepting bribes from field officers. During the operation on Saturday, the FIA recovered Rs14.75 million from the suspects.

The arrested individuals include Zeeshan Ali from the Audit Office, Assistant Audit Officer Nazar Hussain, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Jahangir Ahmed, and Saqib Sagheer, according to a press release. 

These officials were assigned by the Deputy Director of Procurement and Coordination at the Lahore Office to audit IESCO’s Operation Jhelum Circle and the Regional Manager Transformer Workshop in Islamabad.

The FIA team apprehended the suspects on GT Road, Gujar Khan, where they seized the bribed amount. Initial investigations reveal that the accused received the bribe from field officials.

The Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad has filed a case against the arrested individuals, and further arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.
