Trump biopic 'The Apprentice,' starring Sebastian Stan, set for release just before 2024 US election

After facing challenges in securing a distributor post-Cannes Film Festival, the highly anticipated film 'The Apprentice' , starring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump, has finally found a home with Briarcliff Entertainment. 

Directed by Danish Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi, the film is set for release in U.S. and Canadian theaters on October 11, just weeks before the upcoming November 5 election.

'The Apprentice' delves into Trump's early rise in New York real estate under the mentorship of defense attorney Roy Cohn, portrayed by Jeremy Strong. 

The film has already stirred controversy, particularly for a scene depicting an alleged rape of Ivana Trump, a claim made in her 1990 divorce deposition but later retracted.

Abbasi expressed determination to release the film before voters head to the polls, despite larger studios passing on the project due to potential legal risks. 

The Trump campaign has vehemently opposed the film's release, labeling it as "malicious defamation" and threatening legal action.

Briarcliff Entertainment, known for distributing the 2022 documentary 'Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down' and the thriller 'Memory', will bring 'The Apprentice' to audiences, reigniting debates over its portrayal of the former president and its potential impact on the election.
