DIJKOT:

Two workers, including an employee of the municipal corporation, died of toxic gas while cleaning a sewerage line in Chak Jhumra.

A Rescue 1122 spokesman said on Monday that Shakeel Ahmed, 40, an employee of the Jhumra Municipal Corporation, was busy cleaning the sewage on the Jhumra-Chiniot road when he fell unconscious due to poisonous gas.

Later, his 35-year-old co-worker Sohail Masih went into the sewerage line to save him abut he also fell unconscious due to the poisonous gas.

After receiving information about the incident, Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot but in vain as both sewer men had died.

The team carried out a search operation and took out the bodies of Shakeel and Sohail. The bodies were handed over to the police who shifted them to the mortuary of the Chak Jhumra Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital for post-mortem.
