The Peshawar High Court has sought a reply from the interim provincial government by Feb 6 on a writ petition filed against the condition imposed on 35 assistants of the police department to pass the departmental examination for promotion to Grade 17.
A division bench comprising Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Waqar Ahmed heard the writ petition of the 35 petitioners.
The petitioners adopted the stance that they were appointed on the posts of assistant in 2016 and this permanent appointment was made from 2013 which consisted of 153 persons in total.

They apprised the court that the Departmental Promotion Committee promoted several assistants to the post of superintendent, but when it was their turn in 2021, the inspector general of police issued an order that they had to pass the exam for promotion, which was not valid.
Their lawyer said that the same DPC was headed by the then additional inspector general of police.
