DERA GHAZI KHAN:

The Ladi Gang allegedly attacked a police team near a cement factory in Dera Ghazi Khan.

During the encounter, an alleged robber was killed while one of his accomplices, who had sustained gunshot wounds, was arrested by police. The Kot Mubarak Police Station registered a case regarding the attack on the police.

Last night, alleged robbers of the “Ladi Gang”, who police claimed had been wanted in many cases of murder, attempted murder and some other serious crimes, attacked a police team on patrol duty.

After the exchange of fire which lasted many hours, police started a search operation during which they found the alleged robber, Muneer alias Munna Kotali, dead due to the firing of his own partners while Sulaiman was arrested in injured condition.

Police said that six armed robbers on two bikes started a straight fire on a police vehicle. Police identified the gang members involved in attacking the police team as Muneer, Habib, Sulaiman alias Shali, Irfan, Kashif and Sajjad.

The police team took shelter in the fields and started firing in self-defence.

The SHO of Kot Mubarak Police Station, along with the Elite Force, who had been patrolling near the cement factory near Bhandaywala, was informed about the situation, who in turn informed the higher authorities on wireless about the incident and asked for reinforcement.

On receiving the message for reinforcement, the SHO of Shah Sadar Police Station, Irfan Mustafa, along with the in charge of the Dasti Pull checkpoint, arrived on the spot with additional personnel.

During the encounter, the accused escaped on their motorbikes, taking advantage of the dark.

A police source said that when the police checked the area, they found the body of alleged robber, Muneer alias Munna Kotali, lying along the roadside while accused Sulaiman was lying close by with gunshot wounds.

Police claimed they found a Kalashanikov lying near Muneer’s body and a pistol near Sulaiman.

In April 2022, three officers of a cement company who had been kidnapped by gangsters were rescued after a week of their kidnapping.

Orders for month-long detention of 20 alleged facilitators and other strict measures for the recovery of the abducted men along with cooperation from local community chiefs were employed for the recovery.

Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha had then told The Express Tribune that action plans were being drawn up in consultation with the law-enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
