ISLAMABAD:

Spain has called for facilitating trade with Pakistan by providing a list of essential Spanish imports, which will enable Pakistani businesses to focus on meeting these demands effectively.

In a meeting with Federal Commerce Minister Dr Gohar Ejaz on Monday, Spanish Ambassador Jose A de Ory discussed bilateral trade and investment relations.

The envoy stressed the importance of a shift in mindset to boost exports, drawing lessons from Spain’s own successful experience.

He highlighted Spain’s support for expansion of its businesses abroad, particularly in South America, and encouraged Pakistan to emulate that policy in order to assist businessmen in going global.

The ambassador asked Pakistan to explore renewable energy opportunities and in that regard cited Spain’s expertise in wind power generation.

He also invited the commerce minister to visit Spain with a business delegation to further strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties.

In the meeting, Ejaz pointed to Pakistan’s growing sports industry and the export of branded sports goods to countries like Spain. He appreciated Spain’s support for Pakistan in winning the European Union’s GSP Plus status.

The minister expressed Pakistan’s interest in collaboration with Spain for establishing solar equipment manufacturing facilities, given Spain’s leadership in solar technology.
