I’ve seen a lot of change in male actors since the #MeToo Movement: Faryal Mehmood

Actor also looked back on having anger issues as a child and overcoming them overtime

Faryal Mehmood recently appeared as a guest on Momin Saqib’s live-audience talk show Had Kar Di. During the interview, Faryal got candid about her experience of working in the Pakistani television and film industry and also shared what she had been up to since she starred in her last play, Raqeeb Se, in 2021.

When asked about something she’d said in the past regarding men in the industry being lascivious and operating on ulterior motives, Faryal made the point to update her statement. She clarified that her experiences since had taught her that men the world over tend to be that way and that inappropriate behaviour is not limited to men in the entertainment industry.

The host agreed with her and confirmed that men having bad conduct was a global problem and not a localized or industry-specific issue. The Gustakh actor then went on to share how she had noticed a great change in Pakistani actors and how they behave following the #MeToo Movement. “Since the MeToo Movement, I’ve seen a lot of change in male actors. They treat us with a lot of respect and love now. It’s almost like it was never a problem,” said Faryal on the topic.

Faryal also opined, “We live in a very manipulative society” – an afterthought she had when sharing an anecdote regarding her childhood aggression and how it once led her to breaking a school peer’s ribs during a physical fight. She admitted that she had anger-management problems and that the aggression she would express with the use of her hands as a child is now channeled by her through her mind—suggesting that one has to use their mind and be clever when they are up against a manipulative force like Pakistani society—which she finds more exhausting.

Faryal and Momin had great chemistry during the show. They spoke openly and joked heartily with one another throughout the episode. Faryal acted alongside Momin in his first drama serial Be Adab and the pair have since shared a strong bond.
