A fresh controversy has struck the Haripur Revenue Department following alleged alterations made to official records by a registrar.
As a result, Haripur deputy commissioner has established a committee, led by Assistant Commissioner Faraz Qureshi, to investigate the matter.
According to sources, the committee launched an investigation and sealed the office of the sub-registrar along with police personnel. During the visit, the revenue department’s record was seized.
They said a registrar of the said department stands accused of attempting to manipulate records through alterations to the official register.
Sources familiar with the situation disclosed that the assistant commissioner of Revenue was ordered to visit the sub-registrar's office after an official submitted a written complaint to the City police station and the deputy commissioner regarding the alleged forgery.
The complainant alleged that Registrar Ashfaq summoned him to his office located on Railway Road to allegedly make amendments to the record. When he declined, Ashfaq, accompanied by associates, reportedly seized the official register.
This development led the official to approach the police and the deputy commissioner, exacerbating the dispute. In response, the deputy commissioner promptly formed an inquiry committee.
Meanwhile, City police sources revealed that the complainant has named three individuals in his complaint. These individuals include Registrar Ashfaq and his colleagues, Allahyar and Nader Patwari.
Insiders claimed that Registrar Ashfaq has previously been embroiled in disputes with several individuals. Notably, he was entangled in a disagreement with former Nazim and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Imran Alizai over allegedly overcharging litigants.
A video capturing this altercation is said to have gone viral on social media already.
