No decision on Mirza’s party membership as yet: Khuhro

MQM to rejoin government after Eid: Durrani.

KARACHI: The speaker of the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Tuesday that the resignation of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza from the membership of Sindh Assembly has been accepted and a decision on his party membership will also be made soon.

Khuhro spoke to reporters after a visit to Islamabad where he attended the party meeting presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari. “Mirza has violated party discipline and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nothing to do with Mirza’s press conference,” he said. According to Khuhro, Mirza’s statements against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were his personal opinion. He said the ongoing targeted operations in Karachi were discussed in the meeting in Islamabad and it was decided that action against criminals would continue.

As far as the alliance with the MQM is concerned, Khuhro said that “We believe in the politics of reconciliation and will woo MQM to rejoin the government.”

Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Agha Siraj Durrani, who also arrived from Islamabad, added that the MQM might join the government after Eid.

Durrani refused to comment on statements made by Zulfiqar Mirza he however went on to say that “action will be taken against those who violate party disciple no matter how senior they are”.

Meeting on law and order situation

At a meeting at the Chief Minister House on Tuesday, it was decided that joint operations against criminals by law enforcement agencies and the police would continue during the Eid holiday.

The meeting was held to review the law and order situation in the city and was chaired by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. IG Sindh Police Wajid Ali Durrani, Director General  Rangers Sindh Maj Gen Ejaz Choudhry, Advocate General Sindh Abdul Fatah Malik, Additional IG Police Karachi Saud Ahmed Mirza and the secretary to the CM Alamuddin Bullo were among the attendees of the meeting.

The situation in Karachi and operations by the police, Rangers and FC in various areas of Karachi was reviewed in detail. It was decided that action against criminals, anti-state elements and terrorists would continue across the board. The meeting participants also decided that target killings would be arrested and no discrimination would be practiced. It was also decided to monitor the action by law enforcement agencies.

The participants have also appealed to the people of Sindh, and Karachi in particular, to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and share any information they have about criminal activity.

What is taking PPP so long to disown him? Too many properties in the his and his wife's name?
