Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has revealed that he'd be willing to make his foray into the acting world, as confirmed by his wife, Sakshi Dhoni, during a press conference in Chennai. The power couple, who have recently ventured into film production with the launch of Dhoni Entertainment, is gearing up for their debut Tamil production titled Let's Get Married.
During a promotional press conference, Sakshi was asked about the possibility of her husband Dhoni playing a lead role in a movie. "If there’s something good, he may just (do it). He is not camera-shy. He has been acting in advertisements since 2006, and he is not afraid of facing the camera. So, he might do it if there’s something good,” she remarked.
Furthermore, Sakshi shared her thoughts on the ideal genre for her husband. "Action. He is always in action,” she said. “What would you choose for him? If we plan to make a movie with MS Dhoni as a hero, then it will only be an action-packed entertainer. If a character with a good story and good message comes, then MS Dhoni will consider acting in a movie,” she said.
Ramesh Thamilmani, the director of Let's Get Married, also chimed in saying that he’d love to see Dhoni in a superhero film. He is a real-life superhero, and I would like to see him in a superhero film,” he said.
Regarding their Tamil film’s production, Ramesh praised the involvement of the couple. “Sakshi was particular about having a heroine who can speak Tamil and not some actor from the North. She wanted things to be authentic. Also, both Dhoni and she were very supportive. Dhoni told me that 'More than anything else, we should like what we have done. Everything else comes later. In that way, I am proud of what you guys have made with LGM.' Dhoni has so far watched the film thrice,” he said.
It's evident that Dhoni holds a strong emotional connection with Tamil Nadu, where he is affectionately known as Thala (leader), a moniker earned during his time with the IPL team Chennai Super Kings.
With Dhoni Entertainment making its mark in the film industry, fans are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the cricketing legend's potential transition to the silver screen.
