HYDERABAD: Water supply to one-fourth of Hyderabad will be affected during the Eid holidays because the canal gates of the Kotri Barrage have been shut again. According to the Water and Sanitation Agency, areas in the city tehsil of Hyderabad, supplied from the Paretabad and Halanaka water filtration plants, will face severe water shortages. The Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority shut the floodgates of all the canals, Akram, Old Phuleli and New Phuleli on Sunday night because of the three-day rain forecast from Wednesday. “At the earliest, the gates will be reopened on September 1, provided if the rains aren’t as bad as they were earlier this month in the south of Sindh,” said the spokesman of SIDA, Hizbullah Mangrio.
