KARACHI:

Asad Aman, a UC chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has denied allegations of "detaining" 32 elected members of his party to stop them from participating in the recent mayoral elections.

"We are not rebels. We are loyal to the leadership and stand firmly with the party," he told The Express Tribune on Sunday. "Our stance aligns with the party's position. We are ready to respond to the show cause notice issued by the party's Sindh chapter president Halim Adil Shaikh.

Aman emphasised their commitment to abide by the party's decision concerning their participation in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) elections.

Regarding the issue of not voting for Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman in the mayoral election, Aman explained that since the events of May 9, they have been unable to return home.

Aman said that all members intend to respond within three days to the show-cause notices served on them by the party's provincial leadership. He assured to come clean on their decision to stay away from the mayoral election.

Aman firmly stated that their "conscience was not compromised", and that they vehemently deny the accusations levelled against them.

"Those who defected took advantage of the situation. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to the party," he added.
