Rawalpindi police claims suspect was member of gang that attacked police

The Rawalpindi police said on Thursday that they had killed a suspect in an encounter, the second such incident in 24 hours.

According to police, the dead suspect was part of a four-member gang who attacked a police party of Ratta Amral in Shahzad Colony on Wednesday night. The suspect was shot dead during a retaliatory fire while three others managed to escape.

Less than 24 hours earlier, another suspect was shot dead following an exchange of fire with the personnel of the Dolphin Squad personnel.

A police spokesperson said that the deceased was involved in an ambush of a police vehicle in Hazara Colony neighbourhood of the same locality on Monday night. A sub-inspector was among three personnel injured in the attack.

The deceased, identified as Sajid Khan, was wanted by the police in a murder that took place in December last year, they added.

The body of the deceased had been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy. It would be handed over to the heirs after legal proceedings.

A search operation was underway conducted in the area for those who fled the scene. The police added that a case of police encounter had been registered at the Ratta Amral police station.
