LAHORE:

An increase in monthly fuel allowance of senior Punjab police officers amounting to Rs20,000 to Rs60,000 has been approved by the inspector general.

A DIG had brought up a proposal in this regard in a Police Executive Board meeting.

Under the new policy, the quota of petrol for additional IG has been raised from 350 t0 500 litres, DIG from 200 to 400 litres, AIG from 175 to 300 litres and assistant director from 125 to 200 litres.

Meanwhile, a Punjab Constabulary deputy commandant has urged reconsideration of reduction in the mandatory tenure of deputation from two to one year for officials of the ranks of constable to sub-inspector.

The proposed reduction in mandatory period of deputation may be appropriate in case of SI and ASI as they are selected at the level of regions for transfer to the PC for their promotion while head constables and constables are sent by the district police, he added.

He stated that in most districts the entire constabulary would complete their deputation in the next three to five years and the districts would be constrained to send them again for PC deployment. The official pointed out that 981 constables are below the age of 35 years in Sheikhupura, 1,542 In Gujranwala and 765 in the Attock district and they will have to repeat the tenure.
