Imad Wasim, Shan Masood, and Shadab Khan are in the race for captaincy for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan in Sharjah.

According to media reports for the past few days, the selectors were considering to rest some senior players, including Babar and Rizwan, for the Afghanistan series. The reports added that Shaheen Afridi was likely to lead the Pakistan team in place of Babar, and the Lahore Qalandars' captain had been consulted.

According to sources, PCB Management Committee chairman, Najam Sethi, contacted Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and some other players on Sunday and informed them that they will be given rest in the aforementioned series.

The board is concerned about the workload of players. Hence, the board considers this an important decision keeping the future in mind.

Babar and Rizwan made it clear to Sethi that they are available for the series. However, it is up to the board if they want to select them or not.

According to media reports, Shaheen Afridi has also been advised to rest in a shocking development, considering he was in line to replace Babar as captain.

Interestingly, Shaheen posted a picture on his Twitter account on Monday morning, in which he is standing behind Babar, indicating his indirect support to the Pakistan captain.

However, he didn’t tweet in support of Babar until he was also asked to rest for the series.

Giving rest to star cricketers can disturb the team's unity and negatively influence the dressing room.
