Slaughterhouse: ‘Crackdown on encroachers, polluters’

Notices issued to people running illegal businesses involving burning of animal fat

LAHORE: Lahore Commissioner Jawad Rafiq Malik ordered on Friday that an operation be launched against encroachments and polluters in near the slaughterhouse Bakarmandi within 10 days. Malik issued the order in response to increasing number of complaints by residents of the area. District officer (Environment) Tariq Zaman was directed to lead the crack down. He would issue notices to people running illegal businesses involving burning of animal fat as well as the owners of properties rented out by these businesses. He was asked to seize the equipment and lodge FIRs against people failing to abide by the orders. TMO Iqbal Town told the meeting that 20 people had so far been arrested in an operation against encroachments.
