Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, has opened up about his now famous tweet to Virat Kohli, when the Indian batsman was going through a rough patch during England tour in July last year.

While speaking to ICC Digital, the 28-year-old said that it is important to back players when they are facing a tough time.

“As a sportsperson, anyone can go through such a time,” Babar said, when asked to reflect on his mindset when he posted the now famous “This too shall pass” message.

“At that time I thought maybe if I tweet it might give someone help and confidence. See, as a player, you try to back every sportsman in a difficult time.

“It is in difficult times when you get to know what you are thinking about others. At that time, I thought I should have done that and maybe something positive will come out of it. Something which can be a plus point.”

Since then, Kohli has turned things around for himself, scoring a century in Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan and then following it up with memorable run-chase against Pakistan in 2022 T20 World Cup.

The Indian batsman also scored back-to-back ODI hundreds recently against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
