Former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra, has termed HBL Pakistan Super League as the 'second best league' in the world after the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

In a tweet on Monday, a former batsman heaped praise on the recently-concluded first edition of SA T20 and said that it could potentially replace PSL as a second-best league.

"SA20 was such a lovely cricketing spectacle…packed houses. Good cricket. League has the potential to be the second-best T20 league after the IPL. Currently, I feel it’s the PSL. Which incidentally is starting today too. BBL-CPL lagged behind," said Chopra.

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape were crowned the inaugural SA20 champions after beating Pretoria Capitals in the final on Sunday.

PSL has often been regarded as one of the best leagues by foreign players and has been particularly praised for its high bowling standards.

The eighth edition of HBL Pakistan Super League kicks off today, February 13, with Multan Sultans, the winners of the 2021 edition and the finalists of the last, hosting title defenders Lahore Qalandars at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

The winner of the March 19 final at the Gaddafi Stadium will not only lift the Supernova Trophy but will also collect a cheque of PKR120m, while the runners-up will receive a cheque of PKR48m.
