Former cricketer Wasim Akram has taken a dig at former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja in his exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan.

While commenting on Raja’s recent ouster from the chairman role, Akram emphasized that it is not necessary that a cricketer should be at the top helm at PCB.

“He came for six days, now he is back to his original place. Najam Sethi has experience. I think it is a wrong concept, that cricketers should be the chairman of PCB. It is an administrative job, so you need to have proper communication with all the boards. Najam Sethi is the right man for the job. I don’t care if people get angry,” Akram said.

Former pacer also gave his two cents regarding the controversy surrounding the hosting of the 2023 Asia Cup.

“Najam Sethi gave a very sensible answer. It all depends on approval from both governments. You have to talk properly [with boards]. This is not gully cricket, that if you don’t come, we also will not go to your country. I don’t understand who are these kids, who come and run cricket in Pakistan,” he added.

Earlier, India had expressed reluctance to send their team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup later in September this year. In reply, then PCB Chairman, Ramiz Raja had stated that if India doesn't participate in the tournament, then we will not participate in the ICC World Cup 2023 scheduled in India.

However, now PCB has secured an emergency meeting with officials from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on February 4 in Bahrain, to resolve the matter amicably.
