The total number of members in the house of the Karachi Municipal Corporation will reach to 367 after 246 members elected through direct polling and 121 through indirect polls on reserved seats in six categories.
Among them are the 10 UC chairmen who are yet to be elected. On the basis of winning these seats, the party position will change but the specific seats will remain the same.
In the house, one per cent transgenders (two transgenders), one per cent special persons (two special persons), 33 per cent women (81 women), five per cent youth (12 youth), five per cent workers or farmers (12 persons) and five per cent minority (12 members) seats are reserved.
In the current situation the Pakistan Peoples Party with 93 seats and one elected unopposed stands at 94. If PPP includes 32 women seats, five youth, five workers, five minorities, one disabled and one trans seat, it’s total number of seats will be 143.
Similarly, if Jamaat-e-Islami with 86 seats, gets 30 women seats, five youth, five labour, five minorities and one seat each for disabled and transgender, its total number of representatives will reach 133.
The Tehreek-e-Insaf has the third largest majority in the house of municipal corporation of Karachi with 40 seats. If the PTI gets 20 reserved seats it’s total number of representatives will increase to 60. The party may not get seats of transgenders and disabled persons.
The number of PML-N candidates will increase to nine after winning seven seats and two reserved seats for women. The number of seats for JUI may reach to four and TLP to three.
