KARACHI:

The members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMPakistan) Coordination Committee visited various towns in connection with a protest demonstration to be held outside the Karachi office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday.

The demonstration is being held against the second phase of local bodies (LB) elections on January 15 on the basis of fresh constituencies. T h e Co o r d i n at i o n Committee members said during their visits that MQM-Pakistan is ready to contest even if the LB elections were held on January 10 instead of January 15, but the demarcation of constituencies in urban Sindh is against the Constitution.

They said that a huge protest would be organised on January 11 against the "fake and biased constituencies" and against the "injustices" being committed to urban Sindh. They called upon MQM-Pakistan workers to initiated mass contact campaigns in their respective areas to mobilize voters in order to ensure maximum participation in the protest.

The MQM Pakistan workers have been asked to create awareness among voters that the party wants free, fair and transparent LB elections which are not possible under the current delimitations which, they say, were a kind of pre-poll rigging.
