Five killed in Muzaffarabad coach accident

Five people were killed and three others sustained injuries as a passenger coach plunged into a drain near Rahim Kot in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) capital, Muzaffarabad.

As per details, the passengers were heading to their hometown Mustamba from Rawalpindi when the unfortunate accident happened in the early hours of Friday.

According to Superintendent of Police Sultan Awan, the driver and the conductor could not survive the crash. Three passengers were also among the dead while one of the injured passengers was stated to be in critical condition.

Sharing the details of the accident, a local resident, Raja Amjad said that “the vehicle was in good condition, so it seems the driver dozed off”. However, the police said the cause of the accident is yet under investigation.

Prime Minister AJK Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan expressed “deep grief” on the “loss of valuable lives in the accident” and solidarity with their families.

He wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery and prayed for the deceased.
