After seeking postponement of the second phase of the local government elections slated for January 15, the Sindh government seems to have settled for the same date.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah told the media in Jamshoro district on Sunday that elections will be held on January 15 and that his party is ready for the contest.
The second phase of LG polls in Sindh was originally scheduled to be held on July 24. Just days before the scheduled date, the polls were postponed for a month due to incessant monsoon rains across the province.
For the third time, following the request of the provincial government, the election commission again pushed the election from August 28 to October 23.
And for the fourth time till January 15.
"The LG elections will offer an opportunity to the people to elect their local government representatives so that their local problems can be addressed more effectively," he observed.
"The elections will give a chance to the people to elect their local government representatives who can address their local problems."
The CM categorically described the talk of the technocrats' government at the center as the rumours and dubbed the people who are spreading these rumours as irresponsible.
"No responsible person has talked about the technocrats' government."
About the stranded floodwaters, he claimed that water from 95% of the flood and rain inundated areas of Sindh has been cleared so far. He told that some parts of Dadu district are still under water, but efforts are underway to drain it at the earliest.
Shah said under the World Bank's lending program of $2 billion, the Sindh government will release the first installment of the cash grant to the rain and flood hit people next week for reconstruction of their houses.
Flour issue
He informed that the government was selling 350,000 bags of 10 kilograms each to the public in the province through the food department's stalls at the rate of Rs65 per kg.
He claimed that action is being taken against the traders who are charging unapproved and high prices from the people. During his visits to Bhan Saeedabad and Talti, Shah condoled with MNA Sikandar Rahupoto and party's local office bearer Ghulam Nabi Solangi over the demise of their relatives
