Galwan says hello: Richa Chadha mocks Indian army, irks many

Actor later deleted the tweet after online backlash and has now issued an apology

Bollywood actor Richa Chadha found herself in hot waters after she took a jibe at the Indian military. In the latest tweet, which caused a stir on social media, she responded to a viral statement issued by Northern Indian Army General Upendra Dwivedi in which he spoke about “reclaiming" Pakistani areas of the disputed Kashmir valley.

Referring to the conflict between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley, which left over 20 Indian army personnel dead, she tweeted, "Galwan says hello."

In response to Richa's post, actors Akshay Kumar and Kay Kay Menon voiced their displeasure and urged their fans to stand in solidarity with the military.

After receiving continuous hateful comments and criticism, the Gangs of Wasseypur actor issued an apology and deleted the aforementioned tweet.

"Even though it was never my intention in the least, if the three words which are being dragged into a controversy have offended or hurt anyone, I apologise and also say that it would sadden me if even unintentionally my words have triggered this feeling in my brothers in the army, which includes my own Nanaji. As a Lt. Col, he took a bullet in the leg in the Indo-China war, in the 1960s. My Mamaji was a paratrooper. It's in my blood," Richa shared.

Soon after she apologised for her tweet that made her the target of trolling, Richa now faces the ire of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) which labelled her tweet as “most irresponsible”. The film body has condemned Richa's tweet and also called for “film entities” to condemn the same.
