Rolls Royce v rotten scooty: Feroze Khan supports Maria B amid ‘Joyland’ release woes

Despite pressing censor issues, Saim Sadiq’s film, starring a trans woman in the lead role, will release in Pakistan

Saim Sadiq's Joyland is officially cleared to release in Pakistan and that news did not sit well with actor Feroze Khan and designer Maria B, who publicly rallied to get it banned. The latter congratulated the team on finally 'getting their way' with “Pakistan’s first transgender movie” but also asked God's forgiveness for the country and its liberal masses.

The Habs actor, showing solidarity, hailed Maria’s transphobic beliefs with a rather classist analogy. “Maria B’s mindset is like Rolls Royce's 100-year road life while ‘others’ you know who are like those rotten scooties. Push push, no move, you dirty,” he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Maria, upon finding out about Joyland’s release, took to her Instagram Story and wrote, “Congratulations Pakistan. Joyland is being released. Our first official transgender movie,” with sad, irritated emojis. She further added, “At least they cut some parts out. May Allah help us and forgive us.”

Earlier, the designer urged all her followers to boycott the award-winning film because “it shows an extramarital affair between two men but also encourages gender transition surgery.” In a series of Stories on the photo-sharing app, she wrote, “Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) especially warned his Ummah to stay away from the Fitna of Qaum-e-Lut. Joyland not only shows an extramarital affair between two men but also encourages gender transition surgery.”

She further pointed out the dangers of gender ideology and added, “the west is waking up and recognising the dangers of gender ideology which defies biological sexes and scientific facts.”

Keeping Joyland aside, Maria has been vocal about her hostility toward to the Khwajasira community and has refused to engage in conversations that would allow her to understand the differences between sex and gender.
