KARACHI:

Sindh Energy Minister, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh on Wednesday demanded that the federal government take immediate action against K-Electric (KE) for terminating the services of a large number of employees.

In a letter written to Federal Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, the minister expressed grave concern on the ongoing process of laying off KE employees.

In the letter, Shaikh wrote that a large number of KE employees, especially from Sindh, have either been unfairly terminated or forced to resign without any reason. He demanded that the federal government pay immediate attention to the legitimate suffering of these employees and take remedial measures.

“At a time when the people of Sindh are worried about their livelihood due to the floods, the termination of such a large number of KE employees and workers without fulfilling any legal regulations has further increased the burden, problems and hardship of the people of the province,” wrote Shaikh.

To tackle the problem at hand, Shaikh suggested a workable solution would be to hold a meeting in his presence.

He also stated that in the meanwhile, the Sindh energy department, in consultation with the labour department, is setting up a cell to redress the grievances of the dismissed KE employees and workers. The calls and requests of KE employees will be addressed through this cell.

“Legal action will be taken on the complaints filed by the said workers,” underscored Shaikh.
