Pakistan wants strong business ties with Zimbabwe to enhance trade, connectivity and mutually beneficial partnership, said Federal Minister for Commerce
and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar.
The minister made the remarks in a meeting with Zimbabwe’s Non-Resident Ambassador Lt Gen (Retd) Martin Chedondo on Wednesday.
Qamar affirmed the government’s desire to enhance cooperation with Zimbabwe in the corporate and other sectors, especially in the fields of agriculture, pharmaceutical and machinery.
He stressed the need for enhancing the bilateral trade volume by utilising the full potential. “Being a member of the South African Development Community, Zimbabwe can play a vital role in the upcoming third Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference and Single Country Exhibition, scheduled to be held from November 29 to December 1 in Johannesburg, South Africa,” the minister said.
Qamar was hopeful that the business community of Zimbabwe would actively participate in the exhibition, which would prove to be a step forward in the exchange of business delegations and establishment of joint working groups.
Talking to the minister, the ambassador said that the relations between Pakistan and Zimbabwe were historical and based on mutual respect of each other as Pakistan had always stood with Zimbabwe since the country achieved independence in 1980.
He underlined the need for enhancing interaction between the business communities and chambers of commerce of the two countries to fully achieve the potential of bilateral trade.
“Trade between the two countries is constantly increasing but it does not commensurate with the actual potential,” Chedondo said.
