JI begins referendum on ‘unjust charges’ in KE bills

Appeals masses to vote whether KMC, other levies should be paid or not

KARACHI:

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi on Friday began the referendum on inclusion of municipality and other unjust charges in electricity bills, asking Karachiites to vote whether unjust charges should be paid or not.

JI Karachi chief, Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman cast his vote in the referendum at the main voting booth setup at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, following a press conference.

Representatives from all major trader organisations in the city joind Engr Naeemur Rehman at the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, the JI Karachi chief said that the KE has become a mafia in the city whereas the Sindh government, the NEPRA and the KE have formed a nexus against Karachi and Karachiites.

He appealed the judiciary not to delay the hearing of cases against the K-Electric and said, don't favour the KE on technical grounds,, instead favour the poor masses on humanitarian grounds. He said that the KE under an agreement with the state was supposed to invest in the system, end load-shedding, reduce line losses and provide cheap electricity to Karachiites.

The KE has been violating the agreement since it's inception while all ruling regimes in the country have been favouring the shady company in an out of the way manner.
