Lahore High Court’s Justice Shahid Karim sought replies from concerned authorities by September 13 on a petition challenging price hike of the petroleum products.
The petitioner had made respondents OGRA, petroleum ministry and others contending that the prices of the petroleum products are decreasing in international markets but in Pakistan the prices are increasing day by day.
As proceedings commenced, Justice Karim remarked that how the prices of the petroleum products could be increased.
The prices of the products are decreasing across the world but why the prices are being increased, Justice Karim questioned the deputy attorney general.
Petitioner’s counsel advocate Azhar Siddique argued the petrol prices have been increased without an approval from the federal cabinet.
The prices of the petroleum products decreased in international market but the prices in Pakistan were increased.
The prices were increased without describing any cogent reason, he argued.
The increasing price in such a manner is sheer violation of different articles of the constitution, the counsel claimed.
He prayed the court to set aside the decision through which the prices of the petroleum products had been increased.
