Naanbais announce hike in roti price

Increase in price comes after hike in price of wheat flour, natural gas and electricity tariffs

Naanbais in the garrison city have announced to further increase the price of Roti and Naan (bread) from July 3 if the government increased natural gas tariff for commercial consumers.

Two days back, Naanbais had increased the price of Roti from Rs12 to Rs15 and Naan Rs20 citing the hike in the price of wheat flour, natural gas and electricity tariffs.

 Naanbai Association President Shafiq Qureshi that they could not sell cheap bread by buying expensive flour. “If the price of gas for Tandoor (ovens) is increased, the price of Roti will be increased to Rs20, Naan to Rs25 and Pratha and oily bread to Rs50,” he said.

 He said that during the last days of the PTI government in power, red flour was available at Rs5,300 per 50 kg bag but now it has been increased to Rs6,800 per bag with a reduction of 2 kg flour per gab. He said that the flour was available at Rs5600 per bag and it has now been increased to Rs7,500.

 The fine flour sack was available at Rs 5,500 which has now been increased to Rs7,400, he said adding that dry milk was available at Rs450 per kg which has now been increased to Rs1,000 per kg in the open market.

 He said that how come they afford to sell cheap bread after such an increase in prices of the flour and other basic ingredients used for making the bread.
