Based on users’ daily search habits, Yahoo released this year’s list of top personalities for India

Entertainment Desk December 04, 2021

To sum up the digital year based on search trends, showcasing users’ top interests throughout the year, Yahoo revealed its 2021 Year in Review (YIR) for India. The annual report announced the most-searched personalities, newsmakers, and events.

With movies back in cinemas, rumoured weddings on the cards and the T20 Men’s Cricket World Cup having recently concluded, the list definitely included Bollywood celebrities but Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gathered attention, while cricketer Virat Kohli and late actor Sidharth Shukla made it to the list too.

This year, the industry lost three much-loved actors – Sidharth Shukla, Puneeth Rajkumar and thespian Dilip Kumar. To pay a final tribute online, their fans landed them at number one, four and five spots, respectively, on the most searched list of male celebrities. Actors Salman Khan and Allu Arjun took the number two and three spots, respectively.

For the female celebrity list, Kareena Kapoor Khan landed as India’s most searched female celebrity. With Sooryavanshi in cinemas after a really long pause and her rumoured wedding with actor Vicky Kaushal making the rounds, Katrina Kaif came in at number two with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone rounding off the top five.

To no one’s surprise, Kohli was this year’s number one Indian sports personality to be looked up online. The rest of the list featured a mix of cricket and Olympic stars with MS Dhoni, India’s first track and field Olympic Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar making the cut.

Following the Aryan Khan pantomime, he landed as this year’s new entrant, securing a seventh place on the Most Searched Personality list.
