LESCO vows to meet industry’s energy needs

Assures textile millers no punitive action will be taken

LAHORE:

Special measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the export-oriented industry without any shutdown, interruption, fluctuation and tripping, said Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) CEO Muhammad Amin.

Talking to the business community at the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) office on Friday, he promised that the industry would receive incessant supply of electricity during the winter season.

Amin assured the participants that no punitive action would be taken against the industry if consumption exceeded the sanctioned load provided that it remained within five megawatts.

He asked Aptma members to apply for load extension, if required, and stressed that Lesco would process their applications on priority.

For immediate resolution of the issues, he named Lesco Director Commercial Tariq Usman and Deputy Manager Muhammad Ashfaq as focal persons, who would work jointly with Aptma official Raza Baqir.

“Textile industry has not only contributed to exports and job creation, but has also aided investment in the country,” he said.

Amin assured the industry that all major issues would be resolved for its smooth operation in the larger interest of the country’s economy and prosperity.

During the meeting, Aptma Northern Zone Chairman Hamid Zaman pointed out that extreme voltage fluctuations, in addition to excessive interruptions, were proving fatal for the export-oriented textile industry and demanded immediate resolution of the problem.

Zaman said that the textile sector operated round the clock and frequent fluctuations in electricity supply dented its productivity and exports.
