PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (FS and HFA) has decided to distribute Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material in schools, hotels, restaurants, dairy shops and other food related businesses including public places in order to create awareness among people regarding food hygiene and quality.

Director General FS&HFA Shahrukh Ali Khan while talking to APP on Sunday said the main aim of the IEC material distribution among the target places was to sensitise the general public and food handlers about hygienic food practices, so as to promote safe food culture in the province. He said initially a total of 400 wall hangings, 400 standees, 200 panaflex boards and thousands of brochures would be distributed among the target community in Peshawar.

“The educational material will help the authority to further spread awareness related to the SoPs of the authority among food businesses, so that they can serve customers with safe and healthy food,” he said.

He explained that the authority would initially distribute the IEC material in district Peshawar which would be later on extended to the rest of the province.

He said keeping in view the burden of food-borne diseases on hospitals, the authority would also approach various hospitals for educating people.
