Pakistan donates 16 more truckloads of relief goods to Afghanistan

Consignment includes food items and blankets, says ambassador Mansoor Ahmad Khan

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan on Saturday donated another 16 truckloads of relief goods to Afghanistan as part of its ongoing efforts to avert any humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.

The relief goods were handed over to Afghan Minister for Refugees Haji Khalil Ur Rehman Haqqani and Deputy Minister for IDPs, Pakistan’s Ambassador in Afghanistan Mansoor Ahmad Khan said on Twitter.

He said the consignment included food items and blankets for their onward distribution among affected people.

Last week, Pakistan had sent 13 trucks carrying 345 tonnes of relief goods, which include food and medicines, under Pakistan-Afghanistan Cooperation Forum.

On Friday, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood had said that the government was fully focused on boosting trade and exports of the country, especially with Afghanistan.

He termed peace in Afghanistan and the strengthening of the bilateral relationship between the two countries as the basis for enhancing bilateral trade.

The prime minister’s advisor highlighted that the first cargo handling from Islamabad airport to Afghanistan was a historic moment.

He was talking to the media on the occasion of dispatching the first cargo to Afghanistan via road.

On the proposal of the WF Integral, the customs department had taken this initiative to dispatch cargo to Afghanistan.

Razzak said despite having the facility of cargo handling at Islamabad Airport, the complex remained inactive for international transportation.

He added that the cargo handling facility at Islamabad Airport would also help in dispatching goods coming from other countries to Afghanistan.
