Pakistan’s legendary pacer Shoaib Akhtar lauded the genius of batsman Fawad Alam after his unbeaten knock of 76 runs against West Indies on day one of the second Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Alam had joined skipper Babar Azam in the middle on the first day as Pakistan found themselves in considerable trouble after losing the top three batsmen for just two runs.

Alam and Babar then combined for a 158-run partnership which ended with Alam being retired hurt.

The Rawalpindi Express tipped his hat at the batsman for playing with sincerity for the country despite his 11-year hiatus.

“Fawad Alam is a genius. He has done TV, played cricket and featured in dramas but always kept performing. He sincerely plays for Pakistan despite being out of the side for 11 years. Hats off to him,” Akhtar said.

The second day of the second Test was washed out due to rain. Fawad Alam can still resume his innings on day three if he is considered fit enough to continue.
