The main Ashura procession culminated peacefully in Karachi on Muharram 10 (Thursday) amid strict security. Paying homage to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, the central procession culminated at Hussain Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar after passing through its traditional routes.
Stringent security measures were in place to avoid any untoward incidents during the Ashura processions this week.
The chief minister visited the Central Police Office to oversee the security arrangements and also inspected the routes of the procession from a helicopter. Sindh Rangers Director-General Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhry also paid a visit to the Rangers Control Room to oversee arrangements. The routes were also monitored through CCTV cameras and aerial surveillance.
Sindh IGP Mushtaq Maher also lauded the arrangements made by the Sindh Police and other law enforcement agencies.
The Sindh home department had imposed Section 144, including a ban on pillion riding during Ashura, besides suspending mobile phone services in some areas.
On all three days - Muharram 8, 9 and 10, the main procession headed from Nishtar Park and culminated at the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah after passing through its traditional routes. A large number of mourners participated in the central procession. At least as 513 Majalis were held and 281 processions were held across the city on Thursday.
