PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan will address HBL PSL franchises’ reservations over the newly-launched Kashmir Premier League (KPL), scheduled to take place from August 6-16, 2021, in Muzaffarabad.

HBL PSL franchises had written a letter to the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ehsan Mani, collectively recording their official protest regarding the board approving the aforementioned league. The franchises reminded PCB that they were assured by the board before the launch of HBL PSL that it will be the only T20 tournament in Pakistan. The franchises were concerned that KPL will be considered ‘mini PSL’, which could bring down the value of HBL PSL and affect their sponsorship contracts negatively.

According to sources, Mani had sent his reply in an email to the franchise owners. However, after sometime he sent another email in which he asked the owners to ignore the earlier email. There was no reason given, but sources added that a close associate of Mani asked him to distance himself from the first email.

Now, Wasim Khan will consult with the lawyers and will formulate a detailed reply, which will then be sent to the PSL franchises owners in the next few days. Board is keeping a close eye on the possible effects that KPL will have on HBL PSL.  Wasim will brief PSL franchises owners regarding how KPL will function.

Sources further added that a big development is expected soon regarding HBL PSL’s financial model. PCB had taken the services of a retired Supreme Court judge regarding the judicial review of the financial model.
