HYDERABAD:

Six policemen have been booked for the custodial death of a suspect arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle from the parking lot of Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Health Sciences in Sehwan, Jamshoro district.

The family alleged that 26-year-old Rashid Lashari died due to police torture. The family claimed that they had informed the police that Lashari suffered from a mental illness and could not ride a motorcycle.

He was being shifted to taluka hospital Bhan Saeedabad in critically injured condition when he breathed his last. The family and neighbours of Lashari blocked the Indus highway in protest. They dispersed after seven hours when their demand of registration of an FIR against Sehwan Police was accepted. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Ghulam Ali Lashari, an uncle of the deceased.

SHO Zulfiqar Odano, Assistant Sub-Inspector Anwar Panhwar, constables Allah Bux Solangi, Riaz Mallah, Manzoor Burdi and Farhan Ali Abbassi have been nominated in the FIR. Jamshoro SSP Javed Baloch suspended the SHO besides forming a three-member committee to probe the incident.
