ISLAMABAD:

As many as 5,618 children up to 10 years of age have been infected with the novel coronavirus in the federal capital while 121 children, including two infants, contracted the pathogen on Tuesday.

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Spokesperson Dr Waseem Khwaja said that two coronavirus-infected infants were admitted to the healthcare facility. One aged three months while the other was just three days old, he told.

The official emphasised that only taking precautionary measures could save people from contracting the virus. He suggested mothers and families not to touch, kiss, or feed children without sanitising hands and stop them from going outside to play with their friends.

Dr Khwaja said that people were required to stop visiting families like they normally do in moments of happiness or grief and stressed the wearing of face masks when stepping outside.
