Murder convict set free after 13 years in jail

Petitioner’s counsel said client had been falsely accused of murdering wife

ISLAMABAD:

After 13 years of imprisonment, a man was set free by the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday.

A three-member bench, led by Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik, presided over the petition filed by Ishaq Ahmed who was accused of killing his wife, Razia, just after two months of marriage.

The petitioner’s counsel said his client had been falsely accused of the murder. He added that Razia had sustained injuries after falling and succumbed to the wounds.

The lawyer said there was no witness of the incident that happened in Multan in 2008, alleging that Razia’s family had produced fake testimonies.

After the conclusion of the arguments, the bench acquitted the suspect after 13 years of imprisonment. Ahmed had been awarded the death penalty by a trial court which was later converted into a life sentence by the high court.
