Qatar for training NAB officials on modern lines

Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Pakistan Sheikh Saoud Abdulrahman AlThani on Friday vowed to provide training on modern lines to the prosecution and the investigation officers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

During a meeting with NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, the envoy assured rendering every possible help to the Pakistan Anti Corruption Academy (PACA) established by the NAB.

Both the dignitaries discussed the possibility of inking a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Qatar and Pakistan.

It was agreed that the draft MOU would be made available to Sheikh Saoud Abdulrahman Al-Thani, through proper channel for necessary action. He lauded NAB’s work against corruption by considering it as a national duty through determined efforts to eradicate malpractices from Pakistan.

Justice Javed Iqbal appreciated the efforts being made by Sheikh Saoud Abdulrahman Al-Thani to make the ties stronger between Qatar and Pakistan.

Justice Javed Iqbal apprised the ambassador on NAB's National Anti Corruption Strategy to eradicate corruption from Pakistan and efforts to bust the corrupt elements and to recover looted money.

The NAB during the present management has recovered Rs487 billion from 2018 to 2020, he added. "The NAB is the focal organization of Pakistan under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) as Pakistan has ratified and is a signatory of the UNCAC."

Given the NAB’s excellent work, he said the anti-corruption watchdog is considered as a role model among SAARC countries.

"NAB's anti-corruption efforts have been acknowledged by the World Economic Forum, the Transparency International Pakistan, the Global Peace Canada, the Mishal Pakistan and PILDAT."

As per the Gillani and Gallup survey, 59 per cent of the people have shown trust in the NAB, he added.
